Jitsi
Price: $
Jitsi is one of the older names in the video conferencing applications industry. Jitsi Desktop is also a great video-conferencing application that is completely maintained by the Jitsi community. Available across major platforms such as Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, this might or might not be the video-conferencing application that you will need.
While there are many applications available on the market for your video meetings, Jitsi is one of the simplest applications you will ever come across. The User Interface itself looks like a decade old, if not more. The features are not a decade old though, as they provide you with all the basics that you could require.
Jitsi brings a lot of different features to the table. Compared to its competitors, Jitsi focuses on basic and trivial features such as auto-answer, auto-forward, call recording, call encryption, auto-away, auto-reconnect, desktop streaming, file transfer, and many other ones that might prove to be beneficial for the end-users.
One of the best things about the application and the web version is that you do not need an account to get started. All you have to do is download and install the application. That is it. You do not have to do anything else.
In case you do want to log in or use your accounts, you can add the following accounts: AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Ippi, Iptel, IRC, SIP, and XMPP. All of the above-mentioned accounts and technologies are supported in Jitsi. You can login using any of these accounts and then conduct all your meetings, conversations, and video calls.
The video calls for SIP and XMPP are handled using the latest H.264 and H.263 video encoding methods to ensure that the quality is not compromised while improving efficiency at the same time. Group video support is available as well. File transfers are only available for XMPP, AIM/ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, and YIM. Text messages are end-to-end encrypted ensuring security and privacy.
In conclusion, Jitsi might not be a flashy new video conferencing application but it might be one of the efficient alternatives that you might be looking for. The UI is particularly bland, but if you are a fan of vintage designs, you might even like it.
